Will climate change supercharge superbugs?

A new report by the United Nations highlights yet another potential consequence of climate change: the rise of antibiotic-resistant superbugs. According to scientists, bacteria will multiply more quickly as global temperatures rise – while the rate at which antibiotic-resistant genes spread between organisms will also increase. This worrying combination could help to fuel a new wave of drug-resistant diseases, and there’s no guarantee that science will be able to catch up. Super.

It's not easy being green

According to the charity CDP, fewer than one in 200 businesses have a ‘credible climate transition plan’. So, while these companies might publicly commit to slashing their carbon footprint, they don’t have a clue how they’re actually going to do it. CDP’s finding is based on a sample of more than 18,000 companies from across the globe, all of which willingly shared their data with the organization. This kind of openness is a step in the right direction – but businesses clearly have a long way to go when it comes to climate planning.
