Plus: Are winter sports sealing their own climate fate?
Happy Tuesday! Today we'll explain why climate activists are taking on a wind farm, discuss a worrying new report on the future of plastic consumption, and explore whether winter sports could be bringing about their own downfall. Let’s dive right in 👇:

Greta takes on an unlikely new enemy ✊
Greta Thunberg’s been at it again. This time, she joined forces with a group of indigenous protesters to block the entrances to Norway’s energy ministry.
But here the plot thickens.
Greta and co were actually protesting against a wind farm. They want the Norwegian government to dismantle a set of turbines built on land traditionally used by Sami reindeer herders. Greta called this green “colonialism”, and asserted that climate action “can't happen at the expense of some people”. This goes to show that doing the ‘right’ thing for the planet can be way more complicated than it first appears.
Can we win the fight against plastic?🥊
A new study claims that global plastic consumption is on course to almost double by 2050. Whichever way you look at it, that would be pretty terrible for the planet. So what can we do to make sure it doesn’t happen?
According to the group behind the study, this global problem needs a global solution. Politicians need to come together and agree on an “ambitious”, legally binding treaty to cut down on the use of plastics. Let’s hope that the ‘right to plastic’ doesn’t become the next big American culture war.
Winter sport is in trouble – but is it (partly) to blame? 🏂
As temperatures rise, winter sports events across the globe face disruption from decreasing levels of snow. But according to a new report, the winter sports world could actually be hastening its own downfall.
The report points out that a whole host of winter events, athletes and organizations are sponsored by big polluters, including fossil fuel companies and car manufacturers. Olympic skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold likened this to “winter sport nailing the lid on its own coffin.” It sounds like these deals should really be put on ice.
