Davos gets heated as UN Secretary-General burns fossil fuel industry
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has accused fossil fuel producers of "racing to expand production, knowing full well that their business model is inconsistent with human survival" during his speech at Davos. He said the commitment to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels is “going up in smoke” and that the fossil fuel industry is to blame for it.
The battering of oil companies didn’t stop there, Greta has returned from her brief arrest and also called out oil companies for continuing to invest in fossil fuels and for throwing people “under the bus”.
Greenbluffing: EU calls environmental claims into question
The European Union (EU) has drafted a law to put an end to companies' greenwashing tactics by making them put their money where their mouth is. No more "climate neutral" or "made from recycled materials" labels without evidence. The EU will fact-check these claims by making companies report their environmental impact. It's like a game of eco-poker, and companies don't want to be caught bluffing about their green credentials, or they'll be facing some serious consequences.
