Puerto Rico's government is taking a step back in time by signing a deal with New Fortress Energy to run the island's publicly-owned fossil fuel power plants, while the rest of the world is trying to shift to renewable energy sources. New Fortress Energy has previously shipped gas to Puerto Rico but has generated a lot of past controversies in the territory. This isn’t even the worst part, the deal was negotiated in secret. Surprise parties should be kept a secret… not selling the rights to an Island’s entire power generation!

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is struggling to keep up with a mounting workload and the loss of over 1,200 scientists and policy experts during the Trump administration. The agency is now under pressure to write and implement several complex rules and regulations central to President Biden's climate goals within the next 18 months, or risk having them overturned by a future Congress or administration. To quote a former top EPA scientist, the agency is being "worked to death" and "under the greatest pressure they've ever been.”
